Study of a Cascade Element for the Separation of Isotopes of Lithium; ETUDE D'UN ELEMENT DE CASCADE POUR LA SEPARATION DES ISOTOPES DU LITHIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4255354
A method, based on the counter-current electromigration of isotopes in a molten medium, is given for the separation of lithium isotopes. The apparatus used consists of two sections, one for the anode and the other for the cathode, the two sections being connected by a horizontal porous diaphragm. The apparatus itself is pyrex or steatite NHF. The anode is of platinum, and the cathode is either aluminum or stainless steel. Molten lithium nitrate was used in the experiments, and fuming nitric acid was used as the regenerating agent. Some experimental results are given. (J.S.R.)
