Thc characteristics of a solvent for the extraction of uranium from thorium salts are described, and methyl cyclohexanone was investigated as a possible solvent. The distribution coefficients of uranyl nitrate and thorium nitrate between 2-methyl cyclohexanone and water or aqueous solution of various salting out reagents were determined. The results showed that the solvent extracts uranium from a solution with sodium nitrate as ssalting out agent with a yield of 99.9%, but that thorium is not extracted at all.
