Title: ANGULAR CORRELATION OF GAMMA RAYS IN Sc$sup 4$$sup 7$

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4251804

Gamma rays in Sc/sup 47/ following beta decay of Ca/sup 47/ were studied with angular correlation techiques. These measurements and the results of previous research favor spin and parity assignments of 5/2- , 3/2-, and 7/2for the 1.31 Mev, 0.480 Mev (or 0.830 Mev), and ground state levels, respectively. The multipolarities of gamma transitions are given. (auth) l646O Studios of alpha scattering at 19 Mev were extended to include N/sup 14/. Data nre also reported on the angular dependence of protons in F/sup 19/( alpha ,p) and the energy dependence of C/sup 12/( alpha ,p). Angular correlation studies were continued with beta-gamma directional correlation and circular polarization measurements. Results are included from investigations of conversion electron polarization following beta decay. Preliminary measureusing scintillatton techniques. Preliminary results are also reported from studies of Cd/sup 115m/ beta decay, Ag/sup 106/ decay ( gamma , np) and ( gamma ,3n3p) reactions in Ca/ sup 40/, and isomeric states in In-/sup 112/. Instrument designs and schemes used in the various investidations are included, (For preceding period see AECU- 3696). (D.E.B.) l6461 Data are presented on the anguler distribution of elastic scattering and on the spectrum of inelastically scattered neutrons for incident neutrons of energies 0.55. 1 and 2 Mev for scatterers of U/sup 235/ and Pu/sup 239/ using a pulsed-beam time-of-flight method. New information on elastic scattering for U/sup 238/ at 0.98 Mev is also included. Inelastic cross sections are lower than those reported by others. Unexpectedly large differences in total and in differential elastic scattering cross sections are noted among these elements at the two lower energies. A simple. new procedure is given for calculating the correction to the total elastic scattering cross section due to neutron attenuation and multiple scattering. (auth) l6462 The analytic properties of partial wave amplitudes in meson-nucleon scattering are investigated on the basis of the Mandelstam's representation and an integral representation is set up for them which explicity ex hibits those properties.
