The 10.6-hr Pb/sup 212/ can be separated in carrier-free form by placing Th(OH)/sub 4/ or other suitable compound in an electric field. Thoron (Rn/sup 220/) escapes into the gas phases decays to Po/sup 216/, which decays to positively charged ions of Pb/sup 212/. These ions collect on the negative plate. A simple apparatus for this purpose is described. (T.R.H.)
