THE HEAVY WATER COMPONENTS TEST REACTOR

Journal Article · · Nuclear Sci. and Eng.
OSTI ID:4243947
The Heavy Water Components Test Reactor (HWCTR) is to be Wilt at the Savannah River Plant tp test fullsize fuel elements that are candidates for use in reactors. The HWCTR will have the capability of testing up to twelve assemblies, each 10 ft longs at temperatures and powers equal to those expected in economical power reactors. The HWCTR will be cooled and moderated with pressurized D/sub 2/O. The maximum operating conditions will be a pressure of 1500 psi, a D/sub 2/O temperature of 290 deg C, and a power of about 70 Mw. A lattice diagram is shown and the pressure vessel and containment building is described. (W.D.M.)
