DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH TEMPERATURE RESISTANT RUBBER COMPOUNDS. Period covered: December 1, 1957 to November 30, 1958

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4241558
Heat-stable eiastomers of potential interest for such applications as high temperature aircraft tires, ducting, seals, and flexible connectors were compounded to improve the physical properties required for construction and performance. Improved properties were obtained for compounds of methacrylate rubber, silicone rubber, Viton A and poly (ethylacrylate). Prototype wire tireeord aircraft tires were constructed from methacrylate and silicone rubbers. Preliminary compounding studies were made with terpolymers of butadiene- acrylonitrilemethylacrylate and epoxy extended polyesters. Nonelastomeric polymers with outstanding thermal stability were prepared by reacting diepoxides with diphenols. (for preceding period see WADC-TR-56-33l(Pt.II).) (auth) l5069 The preparation was studied of a wide variety of chemical intermediates required for the prepartion of high temperature fluids and polymers. The intermediates prepared include organosilanes, chlorotriazines, phosphonitrilic halide and a tetra substituted urea. The experimental procedures used were adapted from published research on related materials. Reaction conditions and analysis of desired products are given. (auth)
