STABILIZATION OF A PINCH BY AN ALTERNATING MAGNETIC FIELD

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4241224

An analysis of the stability of a plasma column is presented which is confined by a longitudinal magnetostatic field on which is superiniposed an oscillating transverse magnetic field The fields are produced by suitably energied conductors wound on a cylinder which is coaxial to the plasma and surrounds it. The plasma is assumed to be perfectly conducting and its interior is field free. It is found that this confinedent is stable. (auth)
