Presented at the Hearings on the Biological and Environmental Effects of Nuclear War, before the Special Subcommittee on Radiation, Joint Committee on Atomic Energy. A nuclear attack would have serious effects on agricultural resources and food production in the United States. The damage to agriculture would include both immediate and delayed effects on soils and crops. The effects and behavior of fall-out on plants and soil are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the effects of cesium-137 and strontium-90 on contamination of food chains. Procedures are described for the decontamination of agricultural land areas. (C.H.)
