Porous clay bodies for radioactive waste disposal were investigated. Preliminary results indicate that some ceramics absorb from 50 to 200% of their weight. Ceramic sponges which had absorbed Sr-90 and Cs-137 were fired to 1300 C with subsequent water leaching No appreciable radioactivity was found in the leach solutions Since the method has shown promise, a fullscale investigation is planned.
