Theory of excitation of standing waves in a uniform plasma layer by an injected electron beam is presented. Various characteristics of excited wives are investigated; in particular, discontinuous jumps of frequeney and mode can be expected with the variation of electron density, layer thickness, and beam voltage. The consequences of the theory are compared with experimental results. It is seen that observed phenomena concerning standing plasma waves are satisfactorily illustrated in a quite natural way.
