SOME INTERESTING PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH REACTOR OPERATIONS AT CHALK RIVER. Paper 8 of ATOMIC POWER SYMPOSIUM HELD AT CHALK RIVER, ONTARIO, MAY 4 AND 5, 1959

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4236717
Performance data are given for NRX and NRU for the months December (1958) to April (1959) inclusive. Two developments which have arisen during recent operation of the NRX and NRU are described. One is the unexpected trouble with the fuel rod monitoring systems (pressure, temperature, and radioactivity). The other involves a heavy water leak from the vessel into the J-rod amulus. The fuel rod monitoring systems which measure the pressure, temperature, and activity of the coolant from each tube are described and operational difficulties are explained. (W.D.M.)
