OSCILLATOR MEASUREMENTS OF SOME MAJOR FISSION PRODUCT POISONS

Measurements were made on the neutron absorption cross sections of the fission product poisons Sm/sup 149/. Gd/sup 155/, Gd/sup 157/, Gd/sup 113/, Nd/ sup 143/, Sm/sup 152/, and Cs/sup 133/ using the pile oscillators in Dimple (thermal spectrum) and Gleep (pile spectrum). The measurements on Sm/sup 149/, Gd, and Cd/sup 113/ showed that the effective temperature of the Maxwellian component of the neutron spectrum in Gleep was 70 plus or minus 10 deg C which is 45 deg C above the physical temperature of the graphite moderator. A rough measurement of the cross section of Sm/sup 147/ has also been made. (auth)
