Thorium, uranium, zirconium, and hafnium are extracted by an adsorption method based on the observation that these metals are strongly adsorbed from aqueous mineral acid solution by phosphorylated cellulose. The aqueous solution containing the metals should have a concentration at least 10-N with respect to mineral acid.
