Apparatus and a continuous process for producing BeF/sub 2/ from NH/sub 4/BeF/sub 3/ are described. In the process ture in which decomposition occurs, the NH/sub 4/F vapor being drawn off at the top and molten BeF/sub 2/ being removed at the bottom. The fan which sweeps the NH/sub 4/F out by drawing in air through leaks in the furnace maintains a slightly negative pressure in the apparatus keeping noxious fumes from escaping. The NH/sub 4/F is passed into a water absorber where it is recovered. Any NH/sub 4/F passing unrecovered through the absorber is collected in an electrostatic precipitator. (T.R.H
