A method and apparatus for separating isotopic ions by means of an opposed electric field and centrifugal force is described. The combined effect of centrifugal force and radial electric field can be adjusted to completely separate a heavier ion from a lighter one in one operation. Centrifugal accelerations of the order of 10/sup 5/g are required and are obtained by causing the solution of ions to be separated and to be pumped at high linear speed through a spiral conduit. The spiral groove is lincd with a conducting tape on which ions may be electrolytically deposited. Means for regulating flow rate and electric field strength are given. (T.R.H.)
