CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY DIVISION, CHEMICAL DEVELOPMENT SECTION C, MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT, SEPTEMBER 1959

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4228819
The recovery of U from amines by the high nitrate-water stripping method is described. The amine extraction of Pu(NO/sub 3/)/sub 3/ from Al(NO/sub 3/)/ sub 3/ solutions containing HNO/sub 3/ i s discussed. The extraction of Pu(NO/ sub 3/)/sub 4/ from HNO/sub 3/ with phenylphosphonate esters was studied. The effect of salt type on rare earth extraction from nitrate solutions by neutral organophosphorus reagents was studied. Neptunium was recovered nearly completely from laboratory salvage by extraction with a primary amine from H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/. The recovery of fission product Sr from a synthetic Purex 1-WW solution was studied. (W.L.H.)
