THE HANDLING OF WASTES FROM A NUCLEAR REACTOR. Paper 9 of ATOMIC POWER SYMPOSIUM HELD AT CHALK RIVER, ONTARIO, MAY 4 AND 5, 1959

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4227459
Radioactive wastes produced by a nuclear reactor vary from intensely active sources such as the spent fuel elements to dilute solutions or gases which can be dispersed into surface waters or into the air without danger. Gaseous, liquid, and solid wastes from a reactor such as CANDU are discussed. Methods for disposing of high-level solid and liquid wastes at Chalk Rlver are reviewed. An estimate of the cost of the waste-handling system for CANDU is presented. (W.D.M.)
