ANGULAR CORRELATION MEASUREMENTS ON Cs$sup 133$ AND THE MAGNETIC MOMENT OF THE 81 kev-LEVEL

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
The rates of the muon capture reactions mu /sup -/ + /sup 3/He yields / sup 3/H+ nu , mu /sup -/ + /sup 6/Li yields /sup 6/ Ge + nu , and mu /sup -/ + /su p 12/C yields /sup 12/B + nu , with the daughter nuclei formed in their ground states, are calculated assuming universality between muon-bare nucleon and electron-bare nucleon coupling constants. The induced pseudoscalar interaction and thc additional terms arising found the assumption of a conserved vector current are included in the muon-nucleon effective Hamiltonian. The ratios of the nuclear matrix elements for the muon captures and for the corresponding BETA decays are first estimated in an approximately model independent fashion using appropriate nuclear proton density distribution functions and then evaluated in more detail on the basis of variational trial wave functions for /sup 3/He, /sup 3/H, and of LS coupling and jj coupling shell model wave functions (with configuration mixing) for /sup 6/Li, /sup 6/He, and /sup 12/C,/sup 12/B, respectively. The calculated capture rate for mu /sup -/ + /sup 12/C yields /sup 12/B + nu is in agreem ent with experiment. (auth)
