CORE CALCULATIONS FOR OMRE ALTERNATE II PROPOSAL

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4225737
Studies were performed to select a fuel element for the OMRE-II core that can be fabricated with the present technology and withstand a maximum surface temperature of 850 deg F. A core configuration that will provide facilities for accommodating two 5 1/2 -in. by 5 1/2-in. fuel elements in enclosed test loops was determined, a lattice spacing that will provide a maximum thermal neutron flux, allow nucleate boiling, and not exceed the present 16 Mw heat exchanger capacity was studied.
