Chromium is oxidized in a sulfuric acid solution to the hexavalent state using potassium permanganate. Excess permanganate is removed by the addition of ethylenediminetetraacetic acid and the chromium content is determined from this absorbancy of its diphenylcarbazide complex. The method is suitable for chromium contents in the range 5 to 60 mu g in the aliquot of the sample taken. The aliquot should contain not more than 0.04 g zirconium. (auth)
