STABILIZED PINCH CONFIGURATIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4219882
The theory of Suydam was applied to determine the magnetic field configurations necessary to stabilize certain radial pressure distribution in a linear pinched plasma against helical perturbations. The results confirm the stability of a pinch in which the axial component, B/sub z/, of the field tends to reverse with increasing radius, and also the so-called "unpinch" in which B/ sub z/ initially increases outwards.
