Niobium can be used as an inert metal connector for electrolytic dissolution of stainless steel; zirconium metal and zirconium-10 wt.% uranium alloy can be electrolytically disintegrated in 8 to 13M HNO/sub 3/. Criticality calculations show that it is safe to dissolve a group of four subassemblies of PRDC elements in the large plant dissolvers, provided that the subassemblies are held in a single row.
