HEAT CONTENT AND HEAT CAPACITIES IN THE SYSTEM TITANIUM-SILICON (in Russian)

The heat content of the silicides TiSi/sub 2/, TiSi, and Ti/sub 5/Si/sub 3/ and of metallic titanium were determined in a massive calorimeter by the mixing method. After differentiating the heat content equations, expressions were obtained for the heat capacities as a function of the temperaturei TiSi/sub 2/: C/sub p/ = 14.94 + 8.32 x 10/sup -3/ T -0.455 x 10/sup 6/ T/sup -2/ cal/ (deg.mole); (298 to 1180 deg K, plus or minus 1.9%); TiSi: C/sub p/ = 15.43 -- 0.8832 x 10/sup 6/T/sup -2/ cal/(deg.mole); (298 to 1350 deg K, plus or minus 1.8%); Ti/sub 5/Si/sub 3/: C/sub p/ = 58.22 plus or minus 5.742 x 10/sup -3/ T - 2.646 x 10/sup 6/T/sup -2/ cal/(deg.mole); (298 to 1170 deg K, plus or minus 3.0%); alpha -Ti: C/sub p/ = 8.641 + 1.405 x 10/sup -4/ T0.3467 x 10/sup 6/T/sup -2/ cal/(deg.g.atom); (298 to 1155 deg K, plus or minus 1.6%); and beta -Ti i C/ sub p/ = 7.968 cal/deg.g.atom; (1155 to 1400 deg K, plus or minus 0.8%). The heat of the transition alpha -Ti yields - beta -Ti was found to be: DELTA H/ sub 1155/ = +820 plus or minus 20 ( plus or minus 2.4%) cal/g.atom. Using the data of the present work and the values for the heats of formation of silicides previously measured, the temperature dependences of the heat effects were calculated. (auth)
