THEORETICAL STUDIES OF THE ALPHA DECAY OF U$sup 23$$sup 3$
The alpha decay of a deformed odd-mass nucleus, U/sup 233, is treated by the use of numerical integration on an IBM650 computer. The results of this treatement are compared with the theory of Bohr, Froman, and Mottelson. Approximate analytic methods are developed for predicting the intensities of the higher members of the ground rotational band. A comparison is made between the numerical integration and the experiments of Roberts, Dabbs, and Parker, in which they examine the angular distribution of alpha particles from aligned U/sup 233/ nuclei. The results of the numerical integration of U/sup 233/ are presented in matrices analogous to those of Froman, and numerical values of the functions are given for selected values of r. (auth)
