The sample is dissolved in a mixture of aluminum chloride and hydrochloric acid and the solution filtered. The residue is fused with sodium hydroxide, leached with water, and after acidifying, aluminum chloride added. The silica is determined absorptiometrically as molybdenum blue complex on both these solutions. The method is suitable for the determination of silicon over a range 25 to 5000 ppm. (auth)
