THE PRESSING AND SINTERING OF RARE EARTH OXIDE PLATES

Fabrication of one hundred plates with a Dy/xub 2/O/sub 3/ interior sandwhich between Dg/sub 2/O/sub 3/ exteriors is reported. An additional one hundred eighteen plates were formed with a mixture of 45% Gd/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and 45% Sm/sub 2/O/sub 3/. The pressing characteristics, sintered densities, and shrinkages are reported for various starting densities. (J.R.D.)
