MELTING POINT OF Th-U-C FUEL ELEMENTS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4209975
Experiments to provide information on fuel element behavior at high temperatures are discussed. It is felt that an effort should be made to establish a value for the saturated concertration of Th or U in graphite at 1000 to 2500 deg C. Other experiments considered of value in establishing melting data include determination of solubility of ThC/sub 2/ in graphite, U, Zr, and rare eanth mixture in ThC/sub 2/, MoThC/sub 2/ in ThC/sub 2/, Rh in ThC/sub 2/, and BaC/sub 2/ in ThC/sub 2/, and the melting point of BaC/sub 2/ -graphite mixtures.
