EFFECT OF VACUUM CATHODIC ETCHING ON OXIDATION RATE OF URANIUM
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4209932
It was experimentally confirmed that a vacuum cathodic etching treatment greatly retards the oxidation of a polished surface of uranium in air at room temperature. Electron-diffraction experiments led to the tentative conclusion that this effect is due to the formation of a protective layer of amorphous uranium oxide on the surface of the metal. (auth)
