THe authors studied the chemical preparation of cyclic sulfanes with fluorinated side groups, fluorinated alcohols, and fluorinated ethers. The sulfane reactions proceed by free radical addition catalyzed by di-tert-butyl peroxide. Alcohols form as adducts of perfluoroallylbenzene. The alcohols can be converted to ethers under fairly mild conditions. X-ray crystal structures of a cyclic and an acyclic fluorinated ether were reported.
