FORMATION OF CONTINOUS SOLID SOLUTIONS IN PSEUDOBINARY SYSTEMS OF CrB$sub 2$-TiB$sub 2$ (in Russian)
Radiometric and chemical methods were used for determining the formation conditions of binary chromium and titanium dibortdes from (Cr/sub 0.9/Ti/sub 0.1/ )B/sub 2/ to (Cr/sub 0.1/Ti/sub 0 .9/)B/sub 2/ in vacuum at 2100 to 2200 deg C. A tendency to form continuous series of solutions with variations in the hexagonal lattice from a = 2.962 kX, c = 3.060 kX (for CrB/sub 2/) to a = 3.023 kX, c = 3.220 kX (for TiB/xub 2/) is indicated. Preparation of continuous series of solid solutions by complex bortde synthesis with the initial diborides of CrB/sub 2/ and TiB/sub 2/ was not successful. However, synthesis by hydrogen reduction of chromium titanium and boron oxides was quite successful. (R.V.J.)
