The possibility has been ascertained of producing radioactive preparations of Br and I having an absolute activity of 0.3 to 0.5 mu C by means of a small Ra-Besource in accordance with (n, gamma ) reaction. The source having an activity of about 2 x 10 neutrons/sec is made of Pt-ampules containing 150 mg Ra in 300 g comminuted Be. Neutrons were decelerated to thermal velocities with a paraffin diaphragm. To obtain I/sup 128/, CH/sub 3/I was activated, to obtain Br/sup 80/--CH/sub 3/Br (I), C/sub 6/H /sub 5 Br (II) or II with 10% added C/sub 6/H/sub 5/NH/sub 2/ (III). The preparations were enriched by the method of Szilard and Chalmers. To separate the unrestrained portion of radioactive isotopes, use was made of extraction with 1.5 N NaOH. Restraining coefficient of I/sup 128/ is 51%, that of Br/sup 80/ obtained by activation of I, II or II + III, 46, 52, and 21%, respectively. Enrichment coefficient of I/sup 128/ is 3 x 10/sup 4/, that of Br/sup 80/ produced from II + III, approximately 10/sup 4/.
