NON-METALLIC DISPERSIONS IN COBALT AND ITS ALLOYS. PART ONE. DISPERSIONS IN PURE COBALT

Journal Article · · Cobalt (Belgium)
OSTI ID:4203650
An investigation is presented of the effects of nonmetallic dispersants in cobalt and its alloys. An investigation was first conducted on the properties of sintered cobalt powders, then the dispersants were added to the sintered powders as oxides or carbides. The oxide additions impede slipping phenomena in the crystals, which explains their influence on the yield strength of the material: but the grain boundary strength is hardly affected. The carbides segregate at the grain boundaries and tend to increase strength. Boride and nitride dispersions display this same characteristic. (B.O.G.)
