Superior Services, Inc. (West Allis, Wis.) has been through amalgamation, realignment, a public offering, and a spate of acquisitions to become a $100-million company. The quest for the ``Superior company`` is barely five years old. It started with a large amalgamation of local entities and then went through a ``realignment`` in 1994 on the way to its goal of being a leading 21st-century provider of solid waste services. According to the company`s March 8, 1996, prospectus, as part of the realignment, Superior had realized $8.4 million of proceeds from the sale of underutilized assets, non-core businesses, and unprofitable solid waste operations; reduced its total debt by $20.9 million; and downsized its workforce by 20%. Superior has made 29 acquisitions since its initial amalgamation; 11 since going public in March. At press time, it had 22 solid waste collection operations, 10 recycling facilities, seven transfer stations, and 850 employees. Superior operates 20 recycling facilities as part of its collection and transfer operations. In November 1994, it opened a paper recycling facility in Menomonee Falls, Wis.
