Progress is reported in the development of a continuous monitor for use at a gamma irradiation facility for processing food packages. The monitoring system will give an immediate indication of the absorbed dose at every point in the package undergoing irradiation. Results are also reported from feasibility experiments with a stacked Al foil electron beam energy monitor. Measurements of response at electron energies ranging from 7 to 26 Mev indicate that the technique can provide a sensitive indication of changes in electron energy which are adequate for production monitoring purposes.
