RADIATION EFFECTS ON ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS. DESIGNING ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS FOR NUCLEAR-POWERED AIRCRAFT REQUIRES KNOWING RESPONSE OF SYSTEM COMPONENTS AND MATERIALS TO IRRADIATION

Journal Article · · Electronics (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4192956

Electronic components were assembled into system and tested in a radiation field in order to determine radiation effects. The relative resistance of organic and inorganic materials is given in terms of energy absorbed (ergs/gm) for gamma rays and fast neutrons/ cm/sup 2/. Radiation damage to electron tubes is caused largely by fracture of the metal-to-glass seal, particularly in tubes containing borosilicate glass. The irradiation data for communication-type systems are tabulated. (B.O.G.)
