SAFEGUARD EVALUATION OF THE HALDEN BOILING WATER REACTOR

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4191824
The Halden Boiling Water Reactor is situated within a rock hillside in the town of Halden, Norway. The reactor is designed to produce steam by boiling D/sub 2/O in a natural uranium metal core. General classes of accidents were studied and an effort was made to perform a quantitative evaluation of the worst accident within each category. The hazards analysis shows that the plant possesses a hihh degree of inherent safety. It appears that the pressure system will withstand all accidents except the mechanical failure of the system itself. (W.D.M.)
