DEVELOPMENT OF THE MARK A CONTROL ROD FOR THE HALLAM NUCLEAR POWER FACILITY

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/4191211· OSTI ID:4191211
A development program was initiated to design, fabricate, and test for conformance to specifications a shim regulating rod for the Hallam Nuclear Power Facility (HNPF). A prototype mechanism was designed and fabricated on the basis of experience gained from the operation of control rods in the Sodium Reactor Experiment (SRE). The mechanism was tested in a furnace at temperatures approximating those expected in the reactor. One million inches of poison rod travel during the test phase successfully demonstrated the design concept. (auth)
