Title: International energy annual 1995

Abstract

The International Energy Annual presents information and trends on world energy production and consumption for petroleum, natural gas, coal, and electricity. Production and consumption data are reported in standard units as well as British thermal units (Btu). Trade and reserves are shown for petroleum, natural gas, and coal. Data are provided on crude oil refining capacity and electricity installed capacity by type. Prices are included for selected crude oils and for refined petroleum products in selected countries. Population and Gross Domestic Product data are also provided.

  • The International Energy Outlook 1995 (IEO95) presents an assessment by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the international energy market outlook through 2010. The report is an extension of the EIA`s Annual Energy Outlook 1995 (AEO95), which was prepared using the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS). US projections appearing in the IEO95 are consistent with those published in the AEO95. IEO95 is provided as a statistical service to energy managers and analysts, both in government and in the private sector. The projects are used by international agencies, Federal and State governments, trade associations, and other planners and decisionmakers. They aremore » published pursuant to the Department of energy Organization Act of 1977 (Public Law 95-91), Section 295(c). The IEO95 projections are based on US and foreign government policies in effect on October 1, 1994. IEO95 displays projections according to six basic country groupings. The regionalization has changed since last year`s report. Mexico has been added to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and a more detailed regionalization has been incorporated for the remainder of the world, including the following subgroups: non-OECD Asia, Africa, Middle East, and Central and South America. China is included in non-OECD Asia. Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union are combined in the EE/FSU subgroup.« less

  • This report now includes the outlook for international energy markets with the international and individual fuel assessments published separately. This issue emphasizes oil market developments, particularly future world oil prices and oil production potential. This emphasis in no way minimizes the importance of other energy markets; moreover, the analysis recognizes that the development of alternative energy sources impacts directly on the world oil market. The world oil price projections developed in this international setting are, in turn, used as assumptions for analyses of the US domestic energy market provided in the Annual Energy Outlook 1985.   • This year's Annual Energy Outlook contains a range of projections of energy supply, demand, and prices annually for 1985 through 1990 and for 1995. Between 1985 and 1990 the base case projections show no dramatic change in the US energy situation. Alternative assumptions produce relatively small changes in results for 1990. Between 1990 and 1995, the base case projections for US energy supply and demand still exhibit stability, but with some assumed increases in real world oil prices and increased dependence on petroleum imports. Under different assumptions about factors affecting oil supply and demand, the results for energy markets aftermore » 1990 vary widely. By 1990, net imports of crude oil and petroleum products to the United States are projected to be about one and one-half times the 1983 level, and by 1995 net imports in the base case are projected to be about twice the 1983 level, or about the same as the import level in 1978. Energy demand in the base case is projected to rise at about two-thirds the rate of increase in the real gross national product (GNP) throughout the forecast period. Real crude oil prices are assumed to decline through 1985, remain about constant between 1986 and 1987, and return by 1990 to approximately the level prevailing in 1984. After 1990, real crude oil prices in the base case are assumed to increase again. Recent declines in the oil price substantiate the view that the world petroleum market is becoming determined more by market conditions and less by OPEC strategies.
