NUCLEAR SPIN RELAXATION IN LIQUID He$sup 3$. PART II

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
The nuclear spin thermal relaxation time, T/sub 1/, of He/sup 3/ nuclei in pure liquid He/sup 3/ at its saturated vapor pressure was measured between 0.8 and 3.1 deg K. at static magnetic fields from 1560 gauss to 12,200 gauss. No dependence of T/sub 1/ on the static magnetic field was observed. The measured relaxation times increase gradually from 300 seconds at 0.8 deg K to 650 seconds at 3.1 deg K. These times do not appear to have been significantly shortened by wall relaxation processes. These results, which do not agree with earlier measurements, are in fair agreement with the short correlation time form of the Bloembergen, Purcell, and Pound theory of spin relaxation in liquids.
