THE DETERMINATION OF URANIUM TETRAFLUORIDE IN THE PRESENCE OF URANIUM METAL, URANIUM OXIDES, URANYL FLUORIDE AND MAGNESIUM FLUORIDE
Technical Report

OSTI ID:4188202
It is shown that if uranium tetrafluoride is dissolved in a boiling solution of ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid (disodium salt), the solution so formed is stable for at least one hour and may be titrated quantitatively with potassium dichromate. Uranium metal, uranium dioxide, and uranosouranic oxide do not interfere provided the fluoride ions are complexed with boric acid. Uranium trioxide and uranyl fluoride dissolve but are not titrated. The method devised can be applied to slags assuming that only the above compounds of uranium are present. (auth)
