The author discusses some of the drawbacks to owning and operating an electric powered automobile. Then he attempts to re-design the electric automobile by adding a small propane heater, and a propane, gasoline or diesel engine and generator set. It appears this concept has been patented by the Japanese. Finally, the author suggests flywheel energy storage instead of batteries. Institutional factors, such as the tax code, may be hindering the desirability of the electric car.
