Eng.). Nature 186, 613-14(1960) May 21. A precise method is described for the radioassay of carbon-14 in aqueous solutions. The method was developed for use in work on the decomposition in soil of plant material labeled with carbon-14 and is suitable for handling large numbers of samples with specific activities of 0.1 to 10 mu c. The radioactivity of the weak beta emitter is determined by counting the pulses of light emitted by a plastic phosphor in contact with a solution of the isotope. (C.H.)
