The engineerirg aspects of the NPD-2 calandria are discussed. The calandria is a horizontal cylinder-like vessel with double side and end walls. It has an over-all depth of roughly 19 ft. and an over-all length of 15 ft. The average thickness of the light water reflector-shield between inner and outer side and end walls is about 14 inches. The entire calandria is constructed of aluminum alloy and has a dry weight of approximately 20 tons. (W.D.M.)
