articles on sulfuric acid solutions of Ce containing formic acid. In 0.8N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ and in the absence of formic acid, the reduction yield of Ce/sup 4+/ ions is G(Ce/sup 3+/) plus or minus 0.06 with respect to G(Fe/sup 3+/ ) = 5.2; by adding formic acid in sufficient quantities, it becomes G(Ce/sup 3+/) (HCOOH) = 4.04 plus or minus 0.03. Starting with the interpretation of the results obtained, the radical and molecular yield values were calculated for radiolysis of water by 5.3-Mev alpha particles. (tr-auth)
