The characteristics of the equilibrium shape of nuclei with odd A in the region A = 213 to 221 were analyzed. even though the structure of excited levels of even-even nuclei in the identical region indicates spherical shape. The problem of odd A nuclei does not seem trivial because the odd nucleon may distort the equilibrium forces from one side to another data on alpha decay probabilities offer some information on the equilibrium, shape. Quantum characteristics in alpha production are analyzed, and 9 events oi allowed direct alpha transitions at A = 213 to 221 are cited. The large number of allowed direct alpha transitions supports a postulation of spherical equilibrium shape. In sphericalnuclei the odd nucleon state is described only by the quantum number j (the complete angular moment). One level may have 2j + 1 nucleons; hence the presence of 2j+ 1/2 nuclei wwith odd value N and Z and with given j is possible. The direct alpha transitions followed by equilibrium distortion are tabulated. The small F values for direct alpha transitions in Ac/sup 233/ and Ac/sup 233 indicate only a slight dependence of the Coulomb Barrier penetrability deformation values. Moreover, the also show that in deformed A/sup 235/ and Ac/sup 223/ the 89th proton is at the level 5/2/sup -/, which is one of the sublevels h/sub 9/2/ because t he 87th proton in Fr/ sup 219/ and Fr/sup 221/ is the level h/sub 9/2/ (or f/sub 7/2 /). The direct alpha transition of Ra/sup 223/ /sub 2/ were ob is strongly forbidden because the F is large. These data are in good agreement with data on the state of the 135th and 133rd neutrons. The analysis of Th/sup 227/ and Fr/sup 223/ showed that the state of the deformed nucleus Ra/sup 223/ (n = 135) is probably 3/2/sup - /. The 133rd neutron in the sperical nucleus Rn/sup 219/ is found at the level g/sub 3/2/, g/sub 7/2/, or d/sub 5/2/. The alpha transition between 3/2/sup -/ Y (9/2, 7/2, 5/2)/sup +/ should be strongly retarded. (R.V.J.)
