A balloon-borne apparatus for sampling air at heights of about 100,000 feet is described. The apparatus was designed to collect samples of water vapor and carbon diIt was carried to altitudes of 80,000 to 100,000 feet by balloon. The total weight of the apparatus is 95 lbs, which includes 6 lbs of coolant. In the period April to June 1959 four samples were obtained at mean heights of 92,500,
