Audubon`s 100,000 sq. ft. Headquarters renovation in New York City offers an exciting example of green design. It was designed for 60% energy savings as compared to a code-compliant building calculated over a 3-5 yr. period. Building materials were chosen to reduce impacts to occupants, as well as to reduce upstream and downstream impacts. A goal was set of 80% diversion of trash to recycling and composting. A high premium was put on good air quality and developing a pleasant work environment. Information available on this case study, includes two videos, a book published by John Wiley, brochures, and magazine articles. The green building approach provides a way to help both the environment and the economy. These win-win situations are particularly important in tough economic times. Builders can do the {open_quotes}right thing{close_quotes} environmentally and still save dollars.
