Progress in the large-scale development of nuclear power is reviewed. Generating costs of coal-fired and nuclear power plants are compared. Advantages and disadvantages of various reactor designs are discussed. The prospect of drawing energy from the fusion of light nuclei is considered and some of the reactions which are of most interest for thermonuclear work are discussed. (C.H.)
