3-Picoline, 4-picoline and some of their derivatives were acylated at their side chains to give high yields of the correspondlng ketones contalning pyridine rings. It was possi-ble to effect the direct acylation of 3-picoline with aliphatic esters to give alkyl 3-picolyl ketones using sodium diisopropylamide as the condensing agent. (auth)
