  1. Fairfax County Dept. of Public Works, VA (United States)
Fairfax County`s mandatory recycling program is fully established, well accepted by the public and business community and recognized throughout the state and National Capital area as a model of public-private partnership. In 1994 the program won the National Recycling Coalition`s award for Most Comprehensive Program, the National Association of Counties Recycling Achievement Award and in 1993 the Keep America Beautiful National Recycling Award. The specifics of the County`s recycling inspection, monitoring and reporting program are described and a brief overview of the community and the Department`s overall solid waste activities is presented. This is necessary so that the recycling program can be viewed in its proper perspective.
